SikaBaffle®

The SikaBaffle® product line was developed with the understanding that a complete seal against water, dust, and noise relies on many factors. This unique family of products is engineered to expand 200 to 1,200 percent to fill and seal hollow body cavities. Our rubber-based product line has formulations with varying expansion rates, non-sag properties, sound absorption coefficients and conformability. These products are generally non-tacky and can be co- extruded with our high strength pressure sensitive adhesive. Sika has also developed a family of thermoplastic baffle materials. SikaBaffle® 240 is a patented, injection moldable, and incredibly versatile sealant material. It can be insert molded with other parts to make a complete assembly reducing part numbers in the assembly plant. The very low water absorption makes this product line an excellent choice for water management in vehicles.

Whichever baffle material you utilize, our dedicated design staff will work with you to ensure a flawless launch.
SikaBaffle® Specifications:
  • Appearance: Molded 3-dimensional part or co-extruded
  • Installation Location: Body Shop
  • Curing Mechanism: Electrodeposition; Bake cycle
  • Volumetric Expansion: 200-1200%

  •
    SikaReinforcer®

An innovative product, SikaReinforcer®, was developed as a new reinforcing material to meet the demands of NVH, BSR, crash, impact, fatigue and/or durability applications. This thermoset, epoxy based material was developed to provide improved stiffness to hollow metal body structure sections. This product is injection moldable and non-tacky for ease of installation. Upon heating the material to OEM electrodeposition curing temperatures, the composition expands to form a lightweight product having high compressive strengths. A family of products has been developed to provide various volumetric expansion rates and compression strengths.

Cavity reinforcement materials are used in the automotive industry to stiffen hollow cavities in vehicle body constructions. Typical areas of use include the engine rails, rocker panels, roof supports or any other cavity requiring additional structural reinforcement. Use of SikaReinforcer® can allow for significant reductions in vehicle weight and increase structural stiffness with minimal impact to production tooling.

Through the use of the latest analytical modeling tools, performance of SikaReinforcer® parts can be demonstrated in vehicle models. Once the model has been correlated to experimental data, these models can be used to optimize the part.
    SikaReinforcer® Specifications:
  • Appearance: Molded 3-dimensional injection molded, non-tacky
  • Installation Location: Body Shop
  • Curing Mechanism: Electrodeposition; Bake cycle
  • Volumetric Expansion: 100-150%

    SikaDamp®

Our SikaDamp® family of products incorporates both preformed and bulk materials. Preformed products include mastic constrained layer dampers and expandable doubler plate dampers. These products are easy to apply and perform over a broad range of temperature and frequencies to reduce vibration induced noise. Our mastic formulations are butyl-based and can withstand high bake conditions in the assembly plant. The excellent adhesive qualities allow for installation at any point during assembly. Our dedicated engineering staff can even design vacuum assist tools for guaranteed adhesion. We also have a heat-expandable damper that is utilized as a doubler plate deadener. This product expands 100 - 150% to accommodate any size gap.

Our SikaDamp® bulk product is a spray applied damper. This product adheres to the electrodeposition coating to ensure maximum corrosion protection. This material is heat cured and can be applied prior to anti-chip or paint bake ovens. Manufactured domestically, Sika can accommodate any type of bulk handling requests.
    SikaDamp® Specifications:
  • Appearance: Dry, die-cut
  • Installation Location: Body Shop
  • Curing Mechanism: None needed or Electrodeposition or Paint Bake Temp.
  • Volumetric Expansion: 0-150%

    SikaBarrier®

Sika understands that reducing noise in vehicles depends on many factors. Not only are baffles and dampers important, any small holes in the body can be a source of noise. With or without trim panels to cover the hole, a hole in the sheet metal allows for a significant amount of noise to enter the passenger compartment. Our SikaBarrier® products have higher densities to approximate the performance of the metal without the hole. The high density affords the highest noise reduction values with thinner parts to be applied under the trim panels with no interference.

SikaBarrier® products are either mastic pressure sensitive adhesives or specifically designed thermoplastic parts. The mastic products can be applied in any area of vehicle assembly, body, paint or trim shops; to block airborne noise from propagating through body apertures. Quickly and easily installed in trim shop, our thermoplastic products can withstand service temperatures up to 250°F.
    SikaBarrier® Specifications:
  • Appearance: Tacky, die cut mastic, or formed parts
  • Installation Location: Body, Paint or Trim Shops
  • Curing Mechanism: None
  • Volumetric Expansion: None

  •
    SikaSeal®

Because automotive acoustics also relies on having an airtight seal, we have a variety of products for virtually every type of sealing need. Because welds are not water-tight, most body seams must be sealed for corrosion protection and to prevent water intrusion. These sealants are applied in the body shop before the vehicle is welded. Our SikaSeal® product line includes a variety of heat-expandable sealants. These products adhere to any type of stamping lubricant and expand from 60 to over 100% to accommodate any size gaps. These products can be supplied in rolls for multiple application lengths or as a co-extruded tape for specific dimensional requirements. Sika also manufactures a bulk weld-through product that can be utilized for multiple applications and a reduction in labor.

Other products include thermoplastic materials. These products are non-tacky and can be vacuum formed or injection molded for complex three-dimension designs - ensuring a reliable seal for any type of application. These products have been formulated to perform throughout a large temperature range, allowing application prior to anti-chip or paint bake ovens. Applications include striker plate and gage and drain hole sealants.
    SikaSeal® Specifications:
  • Appearance: Dry, die-cut
  • Installation Location: Body Shop or Paint Shop
  • Curing Mechanism: Electrodeposition; or Paint Bake Cycle
  • Volumetric Expansion: 0-200%

    SikaFoam®

SikaFoam® is a two-component, rigid, polyurethane, pumpable system used to fill body cavities. The technology has been commercial since the 1970's. SikaFoam® expands in place to fill body cavities. The density range is 2-30 pounds per cubic foot and the corresponding expansion range is 3200% to 200%. Typical applications provide acoustic, structural and safety benefits. Depending on the density, it is used for acoustic and/or structural benefits. Acoustic benefits provide a complete seal against water, dust and noise. Structural benefits include crash and side impact, roof crush/rollover, joint stiffness and down gauging and down sizing body sections. SikaFoam® is an excellent low cost, high performance product. SikaFoam® simultaneously saves weight and cost.
